WA:Cyclone alert for Kimberley

Communities on the Kimberley coast are on cyclone alert as a tropical low tracks southwest
.. just offshore.

The weather bureau says a cyclone warning is current for coastal areas from Kuri Bay
to Bidyadanga while a cyclone watch is in place for coastal areas from Bidyadanga to Mardie.

At 8am (WST) a tropical low was estimated to be 125 kilometres north of Derby and 250
kilometres northeast of Broome .. moving southwest at nine kilometres an hour.

The bureau says the low may develop into a tropical cyclone late tonight or tomorrow
as it moves towards the west southwest and over open water.

It's warning of winds gusting to 100 kilometres an hour along the coast .. higher than
normal tides .. and heavy rain causing flooding over the north and northwest Kimberley.
