Fed: Gov't outlines sweeping changes to petrol industry
The federal government has outlined sweeping reform of the petroleum industry to deliverfairer prices to motorists at the pump.
Industry Minister IAN MACFARLANE met key players from the retail petroleum sector yesterdayto discuss ways to end the price spikes which anger motorists.
The minister says they agreed to review the industry, dumping laws governing servicestation sites and allowing the consumer watchdog to oversee the sector.
Mr MACFARLANE told ABC Radio that the aim of the exercise is to ensure there is a fairpricing regime right through the chain.
He says he wants to see the removal of the system of discounting which gives motoristsfuel subsidies on some days but not others, such as public holidays.
