New Delhi, Feb. 18 -- The onslaught of information via internet and electronic media, erosion of value system in the society and the psychological well-being of a child were some of the challenges facing today's generation that were dwelt upon by educators from across the Capital at the 38th Annual National Progressive Schools Conference on Thursday.
Commenting on the Right to Education Act, chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who inaugurated the conference, said:
"We need to bridge the gap between students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) of the society and those from comparatively well-off families."
Citing examples of personalities like Socrates to Sachin Tendulkar, Dinesh Singh,
vice-chancellor, Delhi University, in his keynote address asserted that instead of aping the
West blindly, there is need for inner introspection for solutions.
The two-day conference would stress upon integrating value education in schools, relevance of sports in schools, student mental health and well-being.
