NSW: Thredbo victims still waiting for compensation

Lawyers say families of the 18 people who died in the Thredbo landslip tragedy three
years ago are still awaiting compensation from the New South Wales government.

The former state coroner DERREK HAND has blamed government authorities -- largely the
National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Roads and Traffic Authority -- for the tragedy
in July, 1997.

The government announced after the coronial inquiry into the deaths last year that
it would act quickly to minimise further trauma to the families.
